Description:

Cemix Cowshed Repair is a rapid high performance fibre reinforced, polymer modified concrete repair mortar & topping for concrete repairs in 5mm - 100mm deep horizontal applications. It is used for remedial work & toppings on concrete where super high early strengths & durability are required.

Substrate Preparation:

Repairs:

Concrete substrates should be sound & roughened to ensure a good bond. They should be uncoated & clean, free from all contaminants, loose particles, dirt, oil, mould, curing compounds, sealers & paints etc. Acid washing, rough honing or scabbling & then water blasting is required to prepare the surface depending on substrate condition. Washing with soap & water blasting may also be required if oil is present. Cracks should be repaired with a suitable Cemix repair product. The better the substrate preparation & condition the better the end result. The concrete substrate should ideally be at least three months old. Cemix® Cowshed Repair can be used from 5mm to 100mm in depth, however for a durable repair in demanding applications, cut a square or rectangular perimeter edge around the repair at least 15mm in depth. Remove all oxidation from exposed rebar & ensure that there is at least 25mm (or ‘finger room’) behind each rebar. For large volume voids & repairs above 50mm in depth, reinforce the repair with steel mesh.

Topping:

Movement / Control Joints:

Repairs:

Honour any control joints in the concrete substrate – do not apply product over control joints.

Topping:

Mimic control joints in concrete substrate up into the topping. Install control joints in topping. Recommended control joint spacing is 4m x 4m. Max spacing 5m x 5m. Control joints are required at topping penetrations & distinct depth changes in the topping. If reinforcing topping with steel mesh, do not run mesh through control joint.

Mixing:

Mix whole bags of product. Add 2.2L of water to mixer & then add product to water. Add rest of water slowly whilst mixing until the desired consistency is achieved. Maximum total water is approximately 2.7L per 20kg bag. Mix thoroughly for 2 - 3 minutes using a drill & paddle or mechanical mortar mixer. Use product immediately. This is a fast setting product; do not mix more product than can be mixed, placed & finished in 30 minutes. Use chilled water in hot weather as well as to extend working time slightly in normal ambient temperatures. Use chilled mixing water for deep or large volume pours.

Application:

Repairs:

Dampen the concrete substrate & then thoroughly prime the entire surface with Cemix® Multibond brushed undiluted into the surface just prior to mortar application. Firmly push the Cemix® Cowshed Repair into the surface to obtain a wet bond, while the Cemix® Multibond is still wet. Do not let the Cemix® Multibond dry. Application is from one side of the repair to the other completely filling the cut out void. Cemix® Cowshed Repair can be used from 5mm - 100mm depths, however for a durable repair in demanding applications, apply product to a minimum depth of 15mm. Firmly compact mortar into void. Screed & trowel finish immediately as required.

Topping:

Dampen the concrete substrate & then prime it with Cemix® Multibond brushed undiluted into the surface just prior to mortar application. Firmly push the Cemix® Cowshed Repair into the surface to obtain a wet bond, while the Cemix® Multibond is still wet. Do not let the Cemix® Multibond dry. Application is from one side of the floor to the other. Cemix® Cowshed Repair can be used from 5mm - 100mm depths, however for a durable topping in demanding applications, apply product to a minimum depth of 15mm. Firmly compact the topping. Screed & trowel finish immediately as required. For toppings above 50mm in depth, reinforce the topping with steel mesh.

Curing:

Cure product thoroughly after it has set by keeping it wet & covered for at least 6 - 24hours. Avoid product freezing for at least 6 hours.

Storage and Shelf Life:

Can be stored in its original packaging in a dry place well sealed for a period of six (6) months after production. Do not store opened bags.

Cleaning:

Clean all tools with water & brush immediately after use.

Precaution:

This is a fast setting product with limited working time; use chilled water to extend working time slightly or seek technical advice.
