Super Primer

CEMIX SUPER PRIMER is a water-based primer used for improving the adhesion of CEMIX products to smooth, dense and various non porous substrates. It is easy to apply with a brush or roller with applications of subsequent products able to take place with minimal downtime. Specially formulated, ready to use primer, that enhances bond to non-porous surfaces or substrates. CEMIX SUPER PRIMER is suitable for internal and external wall or floor applications.

FOR USE WITH:

Cemix Super Primer is compatible with subsequent applications of CEMIX manufactured tile adhesives, floor levelling compounds and in non fully immersed conditions with CEMIX manufactured undertile waterproofing membranes. For use on to smooth, dense and non-porus surfaces.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Improves adhesion
  • Non Toxic
  • Excellent Bond
  • Suitable for tile on tile application
  • Provides excellent adhesion to PVC and plastics
  • Ready for use. Apply straight from container by brush.

TYPICAL SUBSTRATES FOR TILE ADHESIVES:

Internal particleboard, plywood, sheet timber, medium density fibre-cement sheet, compressed fibre-cement sheet, jointing compound over plasterboard, James Hardie Scyon, concrete, renders, screeds, masonry and lightweight concrete blocks, autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), *existing glazed tiles (not suitable for shower floors or permanently immersed conditions).

TYPICAL SUBSTRATES FOR FLOOR LEVELLERS:

Internal particleboard, plywood, sheet timber for Cemix Wooden Floor Leveller only, compressed fibre-cement sheet, concrete, masonry and lightweight concrete blocks, autoclave aerated concrete (AAC), *existing glazed tiles (tiles to be de-glazed before priming).

Note: Not suitable for steel trowelled finish concrete where floor leveller is being applied. For further information contact Cemxi Technical Support.

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION:

The surface to be primed must be clean, firm and free of dust, dirt, oil, grease, curing compounds, release agents and degraded and unsuitable old surface coatings. Ensure surfaces are dry prior to application, with no residue or permanent dampness. Surfaces must be suitable for the application of the subsequent product being used.

APPLICATION:

Stir product before use. Spread the material using a brush or long nap roller to cover at a rate of 6-10m2 per litre over the entire surface to be primed. For floor levelling toppings application and highly absorbent substrates dilute with water 1:1 by volume. All tools should be cleaned with water immediately after use.

DRYING TIME:

Ensure the CEMIX SUPER PRIMER is fully dry prior to the application of subsequent products, allow approximately 20 minutes at 23ºC and 50% relative humidity.

Type of substrate being primed, porosity and climatic conditions will affect drying times, allow longer for lower temperatures or high relative humidity.

COVERAGE:

One litre will cover approximately 6-10m2 depending on porosity of the surface and the method of application.

SHELF LIFE:

A shelf life of 12 months is expected when stored in a dry place in original unopended packaging, at 23°C and 50% relative humidity.

PRECAUTIONS:

  • Do not empty excess primer back into the original packaging as this may cause contamination of contents.
  • Do not use in negative hydrostatic pressure situations.
  • Not to be applied when surface temperature is below 10OC or above 35OC.

SAFETY:

This is a non-hazardous, non-dangerous product. Avoid contact with skin. Wear eye/face protection. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Rinse out mouth with water and then provide liquid slowly and as much as casualty can comfortably drink. If product comes into contact with eyes, wash out immediately with fresh running water. If skin contact occurs, flush with running water. Seek medical advice in event of irritation. Additional information is in the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) available at www.cemix.co.nz.
